The habits you start with your kids now, are likely to last a lifetime. So get your child off to a healthy start as soon as possible.
Here are a few beginning steps I feel are the most important to add right away.
1. Limit Sugar intake
We all know the epidemic of diabetes in the world. This has happened in part due to all the sugar and white flour added to children’s staple foods. I suggest cutting ALL high fructose corn syrup from your family diet. Try to stay with natural sweeteners such as raw honey, organic grade b maple syrup and stevia. Have you looked at the pancake syrup you are feeding your children?
You also want to be careful of fake sugars, such as Aspartame and Sucralose. Stevia is the only sugar substitute that I know of that is safe. If you know of others, please let me know.
2. Add some superfoods
Kids love superfoods such as raw chocolate, goji berries and farm fresh eggs. They are so packed with vitamins and minerals. adding them in will go a long way to making sure they have a balanced diet.
3. The importance of fermented food
In the early years, kids are forming their immune systems. Adding fermented foods will help them develop proper gut balance and may help them fend off many serious conditions such as Autism or ADD. We believe Body Ecology knows more than anyone on proper proboiotic and gut health. Please visit their site and get some cultured vegetables or raw yogurt into your child’s diet.
4. Watch out for Fluoride
Studies have shown fluoride to reduce IQ as much as ten points. I recommend getting it out of your childs life. If your tap water if fluoridated, do not use it for drinking. And if you use fluoride toothpaste (not sure why you would), remember not to swallow ANY of it.
Please send us your stories and feedback about my preschool nutrition lesson plan. I am looking forward to making this the best page for kids ever.
