A detox diet? In a Weekend? Honestly, that is pushing it.

I really recommend you do the full detox program when you are able, but this weekend detox will get you on your way.

I find there are two main reasons people do a weekend detox diet (if you have other reasons, please let me know).

  1. To lose weight fast
  2. Lack of time to do a proper cleanse

I will try to address both situations in one recipe here.

It is a good idea to ease into a weekend detox. Prior to the two days you are cleansing, try to get into the habit of having a good breakfast.

Two days before the cleanse:

  • Drink a large glass of water first thing when you wake.

15 minutes later

  • Have some fruit (a smoothie is fine, but, please do not add anything but fruit).

45 minutes later

You can eat as normal the rest of the day.Weekend Detox Diet

During these two days, I recommend that you do any exercise in the morning. You are going to be stirring up stored toxins during the afternoons, and you do not want to re-absorb them.

Both days of the weekend detox diet:

  • Drink a large glass of water first thing when you wake.

15 minutes later

  • Have some fruit (a smoothie is fine, but, please do not add anything but fruit).

45 minutes later

  • Have either a salad or a green smoothie

At least 1 hour later

  • Drink a large amount of freshly squeezed organic lemonade (32oz) spread over the next few hours. Keep the sweetener to a minimum. Raw Honey or Grade B Maple Syrup is best.

1 hour after finishing the lemonade

  • Drink some herbal laxative tea (to rid your body of the toxins released). If you do not do this, you may end up feeling a bit sick. The point is to get the toxins out before you re-absorb them.
  • Before dark have some soup. Chicken noodle is great, but watch out for MSG. Lentil is good for vegetarians. Almost all store bought soups are full of things you don’t want. Please read the labels.

Ease out of the diet the way you eased in.

With this detox, you should be able to keep some vitamins and minerals running through you, while at the same time expelling toxins from the body. It is also a better way to lose weight than plain fasting. Your body should not go into starvation mode and start storing fat.
